Truro River Races

The Womens and Mens 10.6km Truro River Races were held on the 19th April with the women rowing up the river with the tide and the Men rowing down the river when the high tide turned……cunning eh !..........Some womens crews times beat the mens crews times……….!

Womens Race start at 4:00pm on the beach in front of Restronquet Sailing Club to the Lock gates at Truro

1st Portreath Piranhas                                   56mins 21secs

2nd Perranporth Rebel Angels                        56mins 39secs

3rd Porthtowan Showgirls                              59mins 16secs

4th Porthtowan Lushingtons                           62mins  24secs

5th Perranporth White                                   62mins 58sec

 

Mens Race start at 6:00pm Truro lock gates handicap start to finish on beach at Restronquet Sailing Club.

1st Porthtowan Blue Bali                            50mins 08secs

2nd Porthtowan Tomcats                            52mins 06 secs

3rd Portreath Wreckers                              52mins 10secs

4th Perranporth Desperados                       56mins 56secs

5th Perranporth Old Boys                           61mins 30secs

 

The format of running the two races on the same day, working around a high tide worked very well, with the minimum of fuss, close racing and conducted in good humour.
 
 We will organise this event again next year and we will reverse the crews i.e. Men row up the river to Truro and the Women row back down to Mylor. We hope to encourage more local crews to get involved; St Agnes, Bude, Crantock, Hayle?
