Please find attached the results of Round 4 UKSRL League 2005.
 
Venue for Round 4 was Saunton Sands on the N Devon coast. Flat conditions greeted the crews on arrival at the beach, along with that stomach sinking feeling of knowing you have to row all the way out and all the way back......!
 
Despite the rough seas and grey skies earlier in the week, summer arrived on Saturday 9th July with clear blue skies and light winds.
 
Prior to the start of competition crews held a one minute silence in memory of those killed in the London bombings.
 
In the flat surf conditions, Porthtowan Womens crew (2004 World Bronze medallists) dominated all three races with Bude in 2nd place. Perranporth and Portreath womens crews battled out the minor placings with the beach sprint finish playing the deciding factor.
 
In the Mens race Porthtowan, Bude and Perranporth fought neck and neck on all three races, with no daylight between the crews at the turning bouy, the race home and the small runners on the tiny swell deciding the placings. Saunton Sands our hosts are manfully filling the 4th spot, but with Llantwit Major (S Wales) now rowing their refurbished Surfboat, I hear a "friendly" between these two clubs is on the cards.
 
Round 5 - Sunday 17th July - Crooklets Beach, Bude start time 16:30hrs
 
***** Please note, be at Bude for 15:30hrs in case we have to move to Widemouth Bay if surf conditions warrant it ****
 
Oh, I am reliably informed that there will tea and cakes for all crew members at Bude SLSC........!!!
 
and/or Spoofing in the Crooklets Inn.
