Hands off the gunwales!

Last Saturday was fairly sketchy. We had a serious injury as the attached photo demonstrates. Happily, Steve is on the mend but it still hurts.

To see some awesome images of the event go to www.budesurfboatclub.co.uk and then click on the link to Phil Martin’s piccies. And then check out the number of rowers who have their hands on the gunwales!!!!!!!!!!!!

This applies equally to novices as it does to some time-served lags.

Please, please, please, unless you want a fingie like Steve’s, take your hand off the gunwales.

Here endeth the lesson.

Too sadly can associate with that pain, and for me a lesson learnt. However yes we still see rowers with their hands over the side, keep them in please! Steve get well soon and listen to the physio they helped me loads and now it only hurts when I visit the freezers in sainsbury’s.

Thanks so much for the attractive finger shot! I don’t think my hand has been near at gunwale since seeing Lou’s get sliced off at close quarters! Not nice!

    Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all the kind thoughts , fingers are on the mend, lucky enough to keep circulation to the end of my ring finger so now just waiting for the nail to grow back. Should be surfing and rowing again soon, but not sure I’ll ever be able to wash dishes again – can’t be too careful at my age. Got to say completely my fault, its not like Andy Bray and Chris Lane have never mentioned that it might be a good idea to keep your hands inside the boat. Hopefully a lesson learned for everyone who recognises that they have got away with it so far!
